{"id":4244,"date":"2021-10-21T18:13:20","date_gmt":"2021-10-21T18:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bergamo2035.it\/pesenti-foundation-shaping-the-city\/"},"modified":"2021-10-21T18:13:20","modified_gmt":"2021-10-21T18:13:20","slug":"pesenti-foundation-shaping-the-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bergamo2035.it\/en\/pesenti-foundation-shaping-the-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Pesenti Foundation &amp; &#8220;Shaping the City&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>A Forum for Sustainable Cities and Communities,<\/em> at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition 2021<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Oct. 15 and 16, 2021, <strong>Allen Sayegh<\/strong> and <strong>Stefano Andreani<\/strong>discussed the future of our built environments, sharing some insights from the book <strong>Responsive Environments<\/strong> by <strong>Actar Publishers<\/strong> and the research projects part of the joint initiative <strong>of REAL Lab of Harvard GSD <\/strong>and <strong>University of Bergamo<\/strong>, supported by the <strong>Pesenti Foundation<\/strong>, as part of the project &#8220;<strong>Real Cities &#8211; Bergamo 2035<\/strong>. The conference took place in the iconic Palazzo Michiel and was streamed online on ECC Italy&#8217;s YouTube channel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>&#8220;Shaping the City&#8221; <\/strong>addressed the theme of contemporary urbanization by presenting and then discussing some key issues that define the city, with input from a group of academics, urban planners and designers, architects, policy makers and scholars. Through presentations and panel discussions, the forum discussed the fundamental issues that shape and define the world&#8217;s cities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Speakers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speakers included various international experts, such as Golden Lion Winner and Curator of the UAE National Pavilion <strong>Wael Al Awar<\/strong>, Domus Director <strong>Walter Mariotti<\/strong>, <strong>Nadia Mounajjed<\/strong> University Researcher in the Faculty of Architecture at Abu Dhabi University, <strong>Francesco Musco<\/strong> Professor and Head of Planning and Climate Change Lab at IUAV University in Venice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The themes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong>Re-Imagining<\/strong>the City&#8221; explored how the morphological dimension, incorporating both architectural character and the urban environment, creates a true identity of the city. The panel discussion focused on the analysis of sensory and experiential features in architecture and the distinctive elements of urban spaces, which revolve around the citizen&#8217;s daily activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong>Climate Change and Resilient Cities<\/strong>&#8221; analyzed interactions with surrounding urban systems, addressing urban resilience and climate change adaptation in the design and construction of cities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cities are engines of change and represent an opportunity to shape the future of millions of inhabitants. &#8220;<strong>Building Through Technology&#8221;<\/strong> focused on the possibilities of using new sustainable materials alongside vernacular (local) materials in different building solutions. Studying the latest trends and technologies in architecture, alongside the use of the most innovative materials. Best practices were analyzed during the project with the goal of identifying environmentally friendly and alternative building materials to help combat climate change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>&#8220;Architecture for the People&#8221;<\/strong> studied how urban regeneration projects, social housing and urban policies have reactivated some neglected areas of the city&#8217;s fabric, promoting dynamism and social development.
