The English-language volume “Bergamo 2.035 | A new urban concept” presents an updated summary of the research work conducted by the Bergamo 2.035 project, the first results of which were published in 2014 in a comprehensive publication written in Italian.

Both the foreword and introduction of this new publication are also presented in Chinese, since the “Bergamo 2,035” initiative was chosen as a model to be presented at the Italian Pavilion of the 2016 edition of the China International Technology Fair (CSTIF) in Shanghai.

Given the uncertainties that connote the technological, political, economic and demographic spheres, imagining future scenarios would therefore appear to be a complicated and, at best, unrealistic exercise. Nevertheless, one can try to create a vision of the possible future through a closer analysis of the present, and starting from the constraints and opportunities that current developments present.

Bergamo 2,035 represents a specific case of application of this logic or a circumscribed territory where account is taken of the peculiar characteristics assumed by the city, its size and interrelationships with the surrounding areas, its productive and cultural vocations; in short, of all those aspects that year of each individual territory a unique “unicum.”
